Our Playlists

Clean-up Music

Recently we noticed our clean-up time was getting longer and longer.  Our helpers were slowing down making cleaning-up time very leisurely.  Time is valuable, especially with all our missed instructional days due to snow, so...

I made a flipchart for the Promethean Board with clean-up reminders, and added some fun music, and clean-up time has improved dramatically!  The children try to "beat the music" by finishing their clean-up before the music is finished.  They bop around the room happily cleaning up and helping each other.  Of course, the right music helps, and I think I've found a hit, at least for them.  They love Herb Alpert and the Tijiuana Brass playing Whipped Cream.  I tried adding a few new songs, like The Beatles singing Help.  While they knew The Beatles were one of the best groups ever, it did not seem to have the same effect on the clean-up process.  So we'll be sticking to Whipped Cream until it loses its magic with them!

Warning:  While Herb Alpert does seem to help five and six year olds clean-up, it does not seem to have the same effect on adults.    Just look at my desk...

Dave Digs Disney

We've been listening to jazz legend Dave Brubeck during our math work station time.  The album we've been listening to has been Dave Digs Disney, but we'll be listening to some other Brubeck songs as well soon.

Included on this album are:
Alice in Wonderland, from Alice in Wonderland

Give a Little Whistle, from Pinocchio

Heigh-Ho, (The Dwarfs' Marching Song) from Snow White

When You Wish Upon a Star, from Pinocchio

Some Day My Prince Will Come, From Snow White

Very Good Advice, from Alice In Wonderland

So This Is Love, from Cinderella
