Homework

Purpose of Homework in Kindergarten

The purpose of homework in kindergarten is to give children the opportunity to share what they are learning with their family.  This gives family members the chance to become involved by encouraging their child, extending their learning, or helping the child make connections to what they are learning about to their family experiences.  Having homework in kindergarten also helps children to understand that practice is a part of learning and needs to occur consistently.

Homework Policy

Homework will be sent home on Monday or the first day of the school week, and is due on Friday or the last day of the school week.  I know sometimes families have special events that come up during the week, so if the homework is not done by Friday, please send it in the following Monday.

Read to Me, Talk to Me

The Read to Me, Talk to Me part of the homework is an opportunity for families to read great books together and discuss them.  Please be sure to have a good discussion before, during and after reading.  Look in the back of the book for questions that support the lesson focus.  Remember, good books are meant to be read more than once, so please read this book at least twice during the week.  The Read to Me, Talk to Me book will be sent home Wednesday and is due on Tuesday each week.
